In mid-March, dusk in the Arctic starts soon after 4pm and lasts around three hours. The sun had already set when I found this location on the shore of Alta Fjord. Although only a few metres from the road, I needed full winter gear including hiking boots to wade through deep snow and reach my shooting location. I was attracted by the strong foreground shapes of ice broken under its own weight as the tide rises and falls; the focal points provided by the cottages and their reflections; and the sky bringing colour to what would otherwise be a largely monochrome scene.
