Over the years, sturdy groynes have been built around Porlock Bay an effort to keep shingle in place. However, they have not proved a match for the forces of nature and are now in various states of dilapidation, to the delight of photographers. I waited for the rising tide to reach the base of this dilapidated groyne, by which time sunset colour had drained from the sky. The strong outlines and texture of the timber, together with the shingle, seemed to lend themselves to monochrome conversion.
