About

Professional photographer Robert Harvey BA ARPS CSci CEnv MCIWEM

Encompassing epic vistas, intimate landscapes, starry skies and engaging wildlife portraits, we aim to understand, educate and inform about all aspects of the natural world.

Professional photographer Robert Harvey created Natural World Photography to share his passion for landscapes, nature and the night sky.  An Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and a Chartered Natural Scientist, Robert worked in environmental management for 20 years. His understanding of how landscapes are formed, wildlife ecology and the natural cycles that influence them make for both compelling photographs and fascinating stories behind them. Careful planning to make the best use of light, seasons, weather, sun, moon and tides is the hallmark of his photography.

Based in Wiltshire, Robert leads highly-regarded group photography tours and 1:1 workshops across Britain, throughout all seasons. His intimate knowledge of the natural world enables each tour to get the best out of the subject being photographed. From sublime Scottish glens and lochs to the rugged peaks of the Lake District and the dark night skies of Cornwall’s stunning coast, Natural World Photography teaches you all you need to create compelling images of our natural world.

Robert has nearly 400 images accepted in international exhibitions and holds the Excellence award of the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique. He is inspired by remote locations such as coasts, mountains and deserts, where untamed land is sculpted by natural elements. Seeking rich colour tones and careful crafted compositions, much of his work is enhanced by diffused light at dawn and dusk. Transient light, moonlit scenes and the Milky Way bring an ethereal quality to landscapes. His wildlife images capture life cycles, habitat and insightful moments of animal behaviour.

Robert is in demand as a lecturer to specialist photographic audiences around the country, a course tutor and has several published books.  Illustrated with his stunning photography and full technical details, Britain's Best Landscapes and How to Photograph Them, Photographing the Heavens and Photographing Wiltshire detail how and where to make great images yourself, to give you all the inspiration you need.

Our Team

Clare Harte

Co-leader, Otters, Eagles and Seabirds: Isle of Mull Wildlife Photography Tour

Clare is a self taught wildlife photographer based near Edinburgh. She bought her first "proper" camera in 2015 and hasn't looked back. Mull is one of her favourite places to visit and she has been known to travel there five times in one year! She has photographed and watched otters on many of the island's lochs, lost count of the trips out on the boat for eagles, and Lunga is her favourite island for seabirds. She aims to share her knowledge of fieldcraft to help you get the best images on Mull whilst putting the welfare of wildlife first.

Nigel Wilkins

Co-leader, Lake District in Autumn and Dartmoor Tors & Hidden Valleys

With 30 years’ experience in photography, in the last 16 years Nigel has turned his attention to landscapes, particularly the mountainous regions of the British Isles.  He loves dramatic scenery, such as the Lake District, Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands, which reliably produces spectacular results. Nigel now spends a large majority of his time capturing images of the mountains, valleys and lakes of the Lake District, where he often wild camps to get the best sunrises.

David White

Raptor Hide Owner

David farms 3,500 acres around Avebury on the Marlborough Downs. He is a keen conservationist and an accomplished photographer of both nature and landscapes. David has created many wildlife habitats on his land, together with outstanding hides for viewing and photographing red kites, buzzards and other charismatic birds of the Wiltshire downs.

David Eagle

Co-leader, Savernake Forest in Autumn

Dave lives just 10 miles from Savernake Forest and is an accomplished photographer of both woodland and trees.  He is often to be found in the Forest and while Autumn is one of the best times to be there, looking for those veteran trees is a year-round obsession. Definitely the best place to be avoid those jobs around the house.

Chris Colyer

Co-leader, Milky Way and Cornwall Coast Photography Tour

Chris has a passion for nightscapes featuring subtly light-painted foregrounds such as tin mines, quoits and harbours to create atmospheric images very different to daylight. He is proficient in both capturing and processing images of the Milky Way. As a member of the working group that achieved the prestigious International Dark Sky Park Designation for West Penwith, part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, his knowledge of the best locations for Milky Way photography in Cornwall is second to none.

Penny Clarke

Business Manager

Penny brings a wealth of knowledge to her role of Business Manager, having worked for many years as a Department Head in Investment Services. She gave up commuting to London from Wiltshire and now has time to concentrate on her photography, with which she has been actively engaged since her early teens. Penny’s loves charismatic megafauna and is developing new interests in creative and journalistic photography.  She built the Natural World Photography website and manages bookings when Robert is away on tour.
