Hummingbird Hawk Moth

These remarkable insects feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air, very much like hummingbirds. They are migrants to Britain from southern Europe and, thanks to our exceptionally warm summer, they seem to be having a good year. Beating its wings 85 times a second, faster than most hummingbirds, even at a shutter speed of 1/4,000th second the winged are blurred.
