"Here is the heart of our Island... The fibres of England unite in Wiltshire".

Wiltshire's landscape encompasses quintessential scenes, the best of both southern and south-west England. The county has whale-backed chalk hills, exquisite Cotswold villages, England’s finest landscape garden and quirky white horses, together with the world’s largest and most famous stone circles. There is much to delight the photographer here. Yet compared to other parts of the West Country, most of Wiltshire remains relatively little known. In this book I share its secrets.

With over 500 colour photographs, Photographing Wiltshire is the definitive guidebook to photographing this fascinating county. It will appeal to Wiltshire residents, outdoor enthusiasts, photographers and anyone who loves Wiltshire and would like to understand it better. Introductory sections explain the story of Wiltshire's varied landscape, exceptional cultural heritage and diverse wildlife. Separate chapters then cover seven main areas of the county, defined by their characteristic landforms. Comprehensive information is provided for 82 locations and 190 viewpoints of interest to outdoor photographers, including how to get there, where to park, optimum viewpoints and the best times of day and year for photography. Naturally, the book includes detailed coverage of world-famous sites such as Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral and Stourhead. Photographing Wiltshire also enables you discover many less well-known gems, ranging from Stone Age monuments to follies; from bluebell woods to flower-studded meadows; and from exquisite butterflies to the world's heaviest flying bird in its natural habitat.
