Courses
My landscape, wildlife and night sky photography courses are operated in association with the Royal Photographic Society and Lacock Photography, either online or classroom-based with field trips. All courses are tutored personally by Robert Harvey.
Each course is designed to develop your understanding of the subject, photographic techniques and to enhance your skills in planning, taking and post-processing. Group size is a maximum of six (in-person) or eight (online). Your active participation is warmly encouraged.

Landscape Photography Fundamentals Workshop (by Zoom)
Landscapes are perennially popular subjects for photographers. However, capturing a really good landscape image is challenging. Everyone can photograph the landscape … but what makes a striking landscape photograph? How much is down to planning and how much is serendipity? Why and how does a superb photograph stand out from the rest?
This one day course covers the techniques and perception required to take landscape photographs that have impact. Throughout the course we will be concentrating on the what, why and how of landscape photography. Indoor sessions will look at composition, focal length and focus, use of light, colour and monochrome. Examples from throughout Britain will be shown to illustrate the ingredients that can make a potentially good photograph into a memorable image.

The course is interactive and your participation with questions, comments and opinions is encouraged.

Astrophotography Evenings (variable dates)
My landscape astrophotography course and tours are very popular but successful results in the field are weather-dependent. I am therefore offering landscape astrophotography evenings in Wiltshire, Dorset or Somerset, arranged at short notice to take advantage of forecast for clear skies. They will make the most of ancient monuments, follies and ruined churches, which are such evocative features of the West Country and make great foreground to the night sky. Our astronomical targets may include one or more of the Milky Way, planets, stars, Moon, International Space Station, passing comets and meteor showers.
These evenings will usually be advertised two or three days in advance by email to those people who have subscribed to my astrophotography evenings mailing list to receive them. They may also be advertised on my Facebook Page.

Landscape Astrophotography Workshop (in person)
Digital photography enables us to capture the beauty of the night sky in unprecedented detail. This astrophotography workshop will introduce students to the wide range of astronomical phenomena that can be photographed using an ordinary digital single lens reflex camera (without a telescope). A full explanation will be provided of techniques to make stunning images of stars, planets, the moon and the Milky Way, in conjunction with terrestrial landscapes. The course also covers photographing star trails as well as rare, elusive and fast-moving astronomical phenomena such as meteors, aurorae and eclipses.

Introduction to Wildlife Photography (by Zoom)
INTRODUCTION TO WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY
For those starting out in wildlife photography, this course will show you how to photograph an incredible variety of birds and mammals throughout the British Isles. We will look at equipment, techniques and locations to find charismatic species and make striking images. The course will build an appreciation of what makes a good wildlife photograph and how to bring all the right elements together.
The morning will concentrate on fundamental techniques such as composition, focus, light, exposure and how to get close to the subject. In the afternoon we will look at where to find wildlife, both close to home and further afield. Participants will be encouraged to photograph birds in their gardens and at wetlands near their homes (suggestions will be provided). We will also consider the ethics and legal aspects of wildlife photography; what should we be prepared to do and not do to get a picture?
