Brown Bear

Europe’s largest populations of brown bears live in the remote boreal forest of western Russia, from where they are free to roam across the unfenced border into eastern Finland. I photographed this one from a hide as it paused to sniff the air, scenting food. Overcast lighting suits the subject, creating a subtle palette of analogous colours .
